Poem - We (An Anniversary Gift For My Hubby)

"We"

We stood together you and I,
Before the Justice of the Peace,
Our hands clasped, eyes locked, our hearts opened.

He said his words and asked us to repeat the vows,
Taking each other forever.
We did so, willingly, eyes tearing, relishing each other.

We exchanged simple gold bands.
He pronounced us man and wife and wished us well.

Such happiness I know being your wife
Knowing I am safe, encircled by your love.
Thru the days, weeks, months and years we've honeymooned.

Your company I cherish, your strength I hang on to.
You care for me so tenderly and with such generosity.
My life is different now - full of joy and wonder.

Years have passed but passion has remained.
And still, our eyes lock and our hearts open.
